CLEEN Foundations Monitors Abacha Loot Utilisation; Visits Abuja – Kano, and Lagos – Ibadan Expressway

In continuation of CLEEN Foundation’s mandate in ensuring accountability and effective utilization of the certain recovered assets “Abacha loot”. The Foundation embarked on a monitoring visit to the Kaduna, Zaria, Kano Express Way and the Lagos-Ibadan Express Way on the 4th and 19th of March 2024 respectively.

While engaging with the contractors at both locations we are wary of the progress of work done along the Abuja – Kano axis as presently the current completion percentages of sections 1-3 are; Section 1=26%, Section 2=100% and Section 3=76%, the Sum total or overall percentage of completion is =59% (based on substantial completion, meaning completed up to wearing course and/or handed over to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

However, work seems to have been substantively completed along the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway which is been handled by Julius Berger, as the completion percentage on the main carriageway is at 100%, rehabilitation of bridges is at 89% while all bridge super-structures are at 100%.
More so, the Shagamu – Ibadan axis (Section II), which is been handled by RCC is at 100% completion as the contractors await a formal handover to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The Foundation want to call on Nigerians to support these legacy projects by ensuring that they protect these national infrastructures for the interest and benefit of all. The Foundation also commends the Federal Government of Nigeria for ensuring that the recovered funds are effectively utilized on legacy projects that benefit the citizenry. CLEEN Foundation also calls on the FGN to ensure that all projects are completed in due course by allocating more recovered funds for the completion of these projects and many more across the federation.
